Although it's completely out of focus, the garden is not just a nice background, but a full 3D environment that the characters kan run around in and interact with (more on that in a later blog post). The environment largely determines the lighting in the scene, because light bounces around the environment, as it would in real life. It is however very difficult to get the lighting to work for both your character and your scene. For this scene, I had to use two separate lightpasses to get the current result. In case you wonder what happens when the environment light is used on the character - check out this image (if you dare). Quite a difference I'd say! That's it for now, thanks for reading and stay tuned!
